ABOUT THE PROJECT

Adopt the Leduc County/Town of Thorsby Intermunicipal Development Plan and Repeal the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework between Leduc County and the Town of Thorsby

The Municipal Government Act (MGA) requires municipalities that share a common boundary to prepare and adopt matching Intermunicipal Development Plans (IDPs) and to establish Intermunicipal Collaboration Frameworks (ICFs).

In 2019, Leduc County and the Town of Thorsby worked collaboratively with input from the community to prepare an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) and an Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF). Policies in the IDP and ICF require that these documents be reviewed every 4 years to ensure that the principles, policies, and intermunicipal service delivery remain current. In keeping with this requirement, Councils for Leduc County and the Town of Thorsby reviewed the IDP and ICF and are proposing minor revisions, primarily housekeeping in nature, to both the IDP and the ICF. As the MGA now allows municipalities party to an ICF to each approve the ICF by resolution, Leduc County and the Town of Thorsby are proposing to repeal the ICF and approve the updated ICF by resolution to streamline processes.

A public hearing regarding the proposed bylaws to repeal and replace the Leduc County/Town of Thorsby IDP and repeal the ICF between Leduc County and the Town of Thorsby took place on June 13, 2023 at 1:45 p.m.
