Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in the survey on grain bags. The What We Heard report is now available.
The project team has reviewed the information shared by the community and drafted this what we heard report and a presentation, which was shared with the Agricultural Services Board on March 11, 2024. Going forward, the project team is looking into potential options for collection sites and talking with the facilitator of the grain bag recycling program Cleanfarms to establish a process that works best for everyone.
Grain bags are an important part of safely storing a variety of crops in our community; however, they require a large amount of space and are difficult to manage once they are used. Further, most collection sites don’t accept dirty, hand rolled, or loosely rolled grain bags.
Cleanfarms, in partnership with the Agricultural Plastic Recycling Group, is looking to expand their recycling collection sites, and Leduc County is considering being a part of this program. To ensure Leduc County can provide environmentally friendly recycling services that our producers want, we asked our local producers how they roll, store and dispose of grain bags to gain an understanding and gather feedback.
The survey was open from February 12 till March 4 and had a total of 40 responses.
